Also in the Premier League yesterday, Sunderland clinched a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge thanks to a late strike from Chemsdine Talbi. The Blues had taken a 1-0 lead in the early stages thanks to Alejandro Garnacho before Wilson Isidor levelled things up in the 22nd minute.
Talbi then scored the winner for the visitors in added time.
Arne Slot admitted that Saturday’s defeat by Brentford was “up there” as perhaps the most disappointed he has been in his time as Liverpool manager, and acknowledged that opponents seem to have worked out how to play against them.
“Teams have a certain playing style against us, which is a very good strategy to play,” said Slot, “and we haven’t found an answer yet, and that every time going 1-0 down doesn’t really help as well.”
In the late game yesterday, Liverpool fell to their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat which left them sixth in the table. The Reds suffered a 3-2 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium despite a late fightback.
