Usman Khawaja left out of Australia’s XI for third Ashes Test in Adelaide | Ashes 2025-26

The Test future of Usman Khawaja has been thrown further into doubt after the veteran opener was left out of Australia’s team to face England in the third Ashes Test starting this week.

Captain Pat Cummins revealed his team on Tuesday with Khawaja, who turns 39 on day two of play in Adelaide, a notable omission from the XI.

Travis Head will continue to open the batting alongside Jake Weatherald in the absence of Khawaja, who has batted just once so far this series when he made two runs in the first innings in Perth.

Cummins returns to the side after missing the first two Tests through injury, while Nathan Lyon makes a comeback after having been dropped for the Brisbane pink-ball Test.

Brendan Doggett and Michael Neser are the men to make way.

Australia: Jake Weatherald, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith (captain), Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon Scott Boland.
