El Kaabi’s stunning strike caps Morocco’s win over Comoros in Afcon opener | Africa Cup of Nations 2025

The tournament hosts, Morocco, kicked off the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 victory against Comoros in Rabat.

Morocco, Africa’s highest placed team in the Fifa rankings at 11, were frustrated in the first half and the Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor made a superb penalty stop from Soufiane Rahimi.

The deadlock was broken after 55 minutes when the Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui picked out Brahim Díaz, and the unmarked Real Madrid striker swept home from 10 yards.

The substitute Ayoub El Kaabi sealed victory 16 minutes from time with a spectacular overhead kick from Anass Salah-Eddine’s cross.
